The following are SAFE medications are to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
Headache or minor aches and pains:
- Tylenol or extra-strength Tylenol
- NEVER USE IBUPROFEN OR ASPIRIN (unless specifically directed to by a doctor)
Colds or Coughs:
- Chlortrimation *Robitussin
- Cool air vaporizer at your bedside * Cough drops
- Nasal sprays such as Afrin * Throat lozenges -Cepacol, Sucrets (used sparingly) or saline *Cholarseptic throat spray
- Vicks vaporub
Diarrhea: ( for 24 hrs only, and only after 12 weeks of pregnancy)
- Kaopectate
- Immodium
- Lomotil
Constipation:
- Colace, glycerine, suppositories
- Citracel, Metamucil, any fiber supplement
- Prune Juice, fresh fruit, bran, and adequate water in take
Hemorrhoids:
- Preparation H, Anusol, Tucks
- Warm sitz baths
- Stool softeners and fiber
Indigestion or Gas or Heartburn:
- Mylanta, Maalox, Tums
- Mylicon, Gas-X
- Pepcid, Prevacid
Nausea:
- Vitamin B6
- Sea bands (motion sickness bands)
- Emetrol, Dramamine
FEVER- PERSISTANT TEMERATURE HIGHER THAN 100.4 F FOR MORE THAN 4 HOURS
- Call the office immediately for further instructions
Allergies:
- Loratadine ( Claritin, Alavert)
- Antihistamine (Benadryl, Claritin, Zyrtec)
Yeast Infections:
- Monistat 3-7 day
- Clotrimazole (FemCare, Gyne-Lotrimin, Mycelex)
- Nystatin (Mycostatin)
- Gynezole
THE FOLLOWING MEDICATIONS ARE NOT SAFE TO USE DURING PREGNANCY:
Aspirin, Ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin), Aleve, laxatives, mineral oils, Tetracycline/Doxycycline, Cipro/Levaquin, Sudafed.
